White Sox Take Commanding 2-0 Lead Over Guardians in ALDS

The Chicago White Sox have taken a commanding 2-0 lead in their American League Division Series matchup against the Cleveland Guardians, securing a dramatic comeback win in Game 2. This victory follows a similar come-from-behind triumph in Game 1, placing the White Sox on the cusp of advancing to the ALCS.

In Game 2, the Guardians initially established a 2-0 lead. However, the White Sox began their rally in the fourth inning when Munetaka Murakami drove in Kyle Teel with a single. The momentum shifted decisively in the sixth inning. After the Guardians' reliever Erik Sabrowski threw a wild pitch that allowed two runners to advance, Braden Montgomery delivered a sharp double to right field, bringing in both runners and giving Chicago a 3-2 lead. Chase Meidroth extended the lead to 4-2 with a subsequent RBI single.

The Guardians attempted a late rally in the bottom of the eighth, narrowing the deficit to 4-3 after Jo Adell hit a triple. However, White Sox reliever Grant Taylor, who had also pitched in Game 1, managed to secure the final out of the inning. Taylor then returned to pitch a remarkably efficient ninth inning, throwing just five pitches to retire the side in order and seal the 4-3 victory.

Taylor's performance has been a key factor in the series. In Game 1, he pitched four innings in relief to secure the win. He followed that up with another crucial performance in Game 2, totaling 5.1 innings pitched across the two games on 49 pitches, showcasing his resilience and importance to the team's postseason aspirations.

The series now shifts to Chicago, with the White Sox holding a significant advantage. The team, which endured a 121-loss season just two years prior, has undergone a rapid rebuild through shrewd trades and the development of young talent. Players like Vargas, Montgomery, and Taylor have emerged as key contributors, contributing to the White Sox leading the American League in runs scored during the 2026 regular season.
