White House officials have strongly refuted claims made by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker that President Donald Trump is suffering from dementia, calling the governor an "incompetent" figure attempting to gain relevance.

Pritzker's remarks followed President Trump's characterization of socialism as the "biggest threat" to America, a statement Trump linked to the increasing success of socialist candidates in Democratic primaries. The Illinois governor suggested Trump's criticisms were a result of cognitive issues.

"Look, the man is continually suffering from dementia. I don't think he really understands what he's saying," Pritzker told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. He further elaborated that Trump's public statements and press conferences, when compared to his appearances from 2015 or 2016, suggest "something genuinely wrong with him."

In response, a White House spokesperson told Fox News Digital that Pritzker's comments were a "desperate" tactic. "JB Pritzker is a slob and an incompetent governor who pushes blatantly false narratives like this in a desperate attempt to stay relevant," the spokesperson stated. The White House also asserted that President Trump's health remains "exceptional" and that his administration has been transparent about his well-being, in contrast to the Biden White House.

President Trump has repeatedly voiced concerns about the growing influence of socialist ideas within the Democratic Party, particularly after several candidates endorsed by figures associated with Democratic Socialists won primary elections. Trump has argued that such candidates make unsustainable promises to gain followers.

Pritzker also criticized Trump for what he described as a tendency to "blurt out" statements without fully considering them, and for allegedly threatening to use federal power against political opponents. He stated that Trump "has these concepts in his head and he blurts them out without really thinking."
