White House Puts Brakes on MLB's Potential Grand Teton Game

Major League Baseball has inquired about the possibility of hosting a game at Grand Teton National Park, but the White House has stated that the idea is not an administration priority.
MLB had approached the Trump administration regarding the potential for a game in a national park, similar to the successful "Field of Dreams" game previously held in Iowa. However, the White House clarified that this is not a presidential directive or a priority for the administration or the Department of the Interior.
According to a White House statement, the National Park Service has not issued any permits, and MLB has not finalized any venue plans for such an event. "If the MLB wants to go on site visits of national parks, that is their prerogative," the administration noted, suggesting a cautious approach from Washington.
The league has seen success with various special neutral-site games, including the Field of Dreams game, the Little League Classic, and a historic game at Rickwood Field in Alabama. MLB also scheduled an event at Bristol Motor Speedway for 2025.
Reports indicated that a National Park Service Deputy Director had visited Wyoming to inspect potential sites within Grand Teton National Park. However, the White House maintained that the visit was part of a routine tour and not specifically for scouting baseball diamond locations.
Organizing a large-scale event in a national park involves significant logistical and regulatory hurdles. These include environmental reviews, public comment periods, and extensive paperwork before any construction or setup could begin. Given the timeline, the earliest such an event could realistically take place would be 2028, as MLB's special event schedule for 2027 is already set.
