White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia's Five-Day Tenure Becomes Meme Fodder
Internet mocks the shortest-serving White House Press Secretary with viral memes and jokes after her abrupt departure.
Internet users have flooded social media with memes and jokes mocking Katie Zacharia, the White House Press Secretary whose tenure lasted only five days.
Zacharia, 41, was officially appointed to the role on Monday and was announced to be "transitioning out" on Friday. Her brief time in the position followed a week of public appearances that included an awkward moment where she referred to the president as her husband. President Trump later stated he advised Zacharia to reconsider her position if she did not want to continue.
Following the announcement of her departure, social media platforms were quick to generate content commenting on the rapid turnover. Far-right commentator Laura Loomer posted an image of herself wearing a blonde wig with the caption "I'm ready," a reference to Trump's tendency to select blonde spokeswomen.
Anthony Scaramucci, who previously held the record for the shortest tenure as Trump's communications director, commented, "Records are made to be broken. But I take no pleasure in other people's pain."
California Governor Gavin Newsom's press office shared a meme featuring Zacharia with the caption "In Memoriam Tuesday - Friday." Another meme, posted by a X account linked to Kamala Harris, showed Zacharia with a LinkedIn banner reading "open to work."
The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump political action committee, posted a clip from "Project Runway" showing a contestant walking off set, captioned "lmao."
Zacharia's rapid departure concludes a tumultuous week for the former Fox News contributor. Her initial press briefing was criticized for her perceived nervousness. The White House has stated that President Trump is "in no rush" to name a successor. Prior to this role, Zacharia had a six-week stint as a communications adviser at Homeland Security earlier this year. Reports also emerged that she had not passed the bar exam, despite presenting herself as an attorney.
