The White House has drawn criticism for promoting a gas station's prices under former President Donald Trump, with detractors labeling the effort a "joke" and a "parade" over a single location.
The White House shared a social media post highlighting a Philadelphia-area gas station that is part of the "Freedom Fuel Network." The post stated, "President Trump is leading the charge to lower gas prices this summer - putting more money in your pocket. 🔥," alongside a video showing gas priced at $3.47 per gallon.
While the price at the Dresher, Pennsylvania station was reportedly lower than at least two nearby stations, critics pointed out that the same location sold gas at $2.99 per gallon in November 2024, during President Joe Biden's final months in office. Journalist Aaron Rupar noted that the $3.47 price point remains higher than the national average gas price of $3.12 a gallon when Biden left office in January 2025.
Trump had vowed during his 2024 campaign to bring gas prices below $2 a gallon. The White House spokesperson told The Philadelphia Inquirer that the Freedom Fuel Network is a private entity and not a government-run operation, emphasizing its role in making gas more affordable.
The promotion comes as the Biden administration announced an interim deal to end the war with Iran, a conflict cited as a contributor to recent price increases. Following the announcement, oil prices reportedly jumped over 6%.
