Whigfield Undergoes Second Surgery for Cancer Treatment Complications
The 'Saturday Night' singer, 56, is recovering from a procedure to address scar tissue pain from earlier operations and radiation therapy.
Nineties popstar Whigfield recently underwent a second surgery to alleviate pain stemming from scar tissue and complications related to her past breast cancer treatment. The 56-year-old singer shared an update on her recovery via Instagram over the weekend, noting the procedure took place last Wednesday.
Whigfield, whose real name is Sannie Charlotte Carlson, posted a selfie from a hospital in Milan, wearing a surgical gown. She explained that the surgery was to address pain caused by scar tissue from earlier breast cancer operations and radiation therapy. The singer is now on bed rest to ensure a swift recovery before her next performance with the @90s_supershow in Germany, scheduled for early November.
She signed off her message with a nod to her signature 1994 hit, "Happy Saturday night."
This latest procedure comes more than a decade after Whigfield first revealed she had battled breast cancer. In a 2024 post, she described the experience as "strange" and shared that while the operations and radiation therapies were challenging, she found strength in observing other patients, including children, fighting the disease. At that time, she urged others to get checked regularly, even when feeling well.
Whigfield, a Danish singer who became an international star with "Saturday Night," has largely stepped away from mainstream music in recent years. She now resides in the Italian countryside near Milan and focuses on the international club scene, particularly house music. She has also been writing music for other DJs.
Reflecting on her rise to fame in a 2019 interview, she expressed a wish for more preparation for the sudden spotlight, stating, "I wish someone would have prepared you for these things, because you're kind of just pushed out into the whole thing." She added that a strong personality and conviction are crucial when navigating the music industry.
