WestJet Plane Wing Clips Catering Truck at Toronto Pearson Airport
No injuries or passengers were on board the aircraft when the incident occurred.
A WestJet plane sustained minor damage when its wing clipped a catering truck while being towed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. as the aircraft was being moved from a gate to an overnight parking pad.
A spokesperson for WestJet confirmed that an aircraft winglet made contact with a parked catering truck. Video footage shows the catering truck moving forward into the path of the wing just before the collision. The front driver's side corner of the catering truck was impacted, causing the vehicle to tip slightly off its wheels. Five fire trucks responded to the scene.
The airline stated that there were no passengers on board the plane and no injuries were reported. The incident did not disrupt the airport's operations.
The Transport Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is gathering information about the accident but has indicated that it will not be deploying investigators, as there was no intention for the Boeing aircraft to take flight after the incident.
