West Hollywood is once again dealing with flooded streets after a water main break occurred Thursday morning near Santa Monica Boulevard and Laurel Avenue. The incident began around 6 a.m. and coated the surrounding area in water.
The new break is not believed to be related to the major water main rupture that occurred last week on Sunset Boulevard, according to a source.
Last week's break, which involved pipes estimated to be over 100 years old, caused extensive property damage to businesses, pushed cars together, and even created a sinkhole that two men briefly fell into. First-floor apartments and underground garages were also reported to have flooded, trapping several vehicles. Mayor Karen Bass highlighted the disruption to morning commuters as a primary challenge, while West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman confirmed that residents were safe but dealing with significant damage, including to vehicles and building units.
Crews are currently working on repairs for the sinkhole and the ruptured pipe from the previous incident.
