Dialog Cafe, a popular West Hollywood establishment known as an influencer hotspot, has sustained significant damage following a water main break that occurred overnight. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, and it remains unclear when the cafe will be able to reopen.
Early morning footage revealed floodwaters inundating the cafe and flowing down Palm Avenue after a pipe, described as century-old, burst under pressure. Mud was found scrawled across the business's front patio and inside the premises.
The cafe, which gained prominence as a gathering spot during the COVID-19 pandemic, shared an emotional statement on Instagram acknowledging the heartbreaking scene but expressing hope in the community's strength. "Dialog has always been more than a café to us. It’s where friendships begin, celebrations happen, ideas are born, and our community comes together every single day," the post read. "Seeing our home like this is truly heartbreaking."
The water main break impacted more than just the cafe, causing property damage to nearby businesses, homes, and parking garages. Several cars were damaged, and two men reportedly fell into a sinkhole created by the flooding, though they were said to be unharmed.
West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman stated at a press conference that all residents were believed to be safe. He told The California Post that the flooding was significant and that city officials were conducting door-to-door checks to assess buildings and assist residents. "Right now, people are just trying to assess the damage, get people out to help them with the repairs and the remediation," Heilman said.
Dialog Cafe has been a known spot for celebrities, with reports of pop stars Justin Bieber and Katy Perry having been seen or mentioned in connection with the establishment.
