Wendi Adelson, the ex-wife of slain Florida State University law professor Dan Markel, has moved to Austin, Texas, with her partner, Jeffrey Robert Estrada. Adelson has reportedly begun using Estrada's surname online, according to reports. This development follows the conviction of Adelson's mother, Donna Adelson, who was sentenced to life in prison for orchestrating Markel's murder.
Dan Markel was fatally shot outside his Tallahassee, Florida, home in July 2014. At the time of his death, he was engaged in a contentious custody battle with Wendi Adelson over their two sons. The murder case has drawn significant public attention due to the intricate details surrounding the divorce, disputes with Adelson's affluent family, and the prolonged custody fight.
Prosecutors alleged that Adelson was a "conspirator" in Markel's killing, though she herself was never charged in relation to the crime. Her brother, Charlie Adelson, and David Segui, another former boyfriend of Donna Adelson's, were also involved in the murder plot. Segui testified that Charlie Adelson hired two men, Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, to kill Markel. Garcia and Rivera were convicted for their roles in the assassination.
