After securing a heavyweight gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, Welsh boxer Isaac Okoh extended a lighthearted invitation to Prince William for a sparring session. The invitation came after the Prince and Princess of Wales chose to attend a netball match in Glasgow instead of the boxing events.
Okoh, who defeated Welshman Connor Williams in the heavyweight final, stated, "If he wants a pad session, tell him to call me. But the fee is quite high!" He added that he hoped the royals might enjoy watching the fights in the future, noting the positive atmosphere at the games.
Okoh and his England teammates, Sacha Hickey and Patris Mughalzai, each earned gold medals during the first session of the day. The boxers, who train together in Sheffield, have set their sights on future Olympic success, with Okoh aiming for gold at the LA 2028 Games. "You’re going to see us back at the top of the podium again," Okoh said. "I feel like I’m one of the best in the world at 90kgs at the minute. I’m still young."
He described his current form as an "amazing run," having won numerous medals since September of the previous year. Okoh sees his success at events like the Commonwealth Games and Olympics as stepping stones towards professional careers and "big pay-per-view nights."
