Wegmans has confirmed that its second Manhattan store will open on the Upper West Side, a spokesperson for the company told West Side Rag on Tuesday. The new location will be situated at 1932 Broadway, between West 64th and 65th streets.

The site was formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed in early 2023. Wegmans signage appeared at the location in June 2024, but the storefront remained vacant for over two years following the initial announcement.

Company spokesperson Mandee Puleo stated that Wegmans is actively working on the store's design and securing necessary permits. While an official opening date is still pending, the store's arrival is confirmed.

This Upper West Side store will be the chain's second in Manhattan. In February, company representatives indicated that negotiations with the landlord, Glenwood, for the 1932 Broadway site had initially stalled. This led Wegmans to prioritize the opening of its 87,000-square-foot store at 770 Broadway in Astor Place, which debuted in 2023.

With the downtown Astor Place location now established, the company has shifted its focus back to finalizing the Upper West Side site. "Yes. Just no timeline yet," Puleo reportedly responded when asked if the Upper West Side store was expected to open.

Despite the confirmation, some local residents have expressed skepticism online, with some social media users comparing the prolonged development to a perpetual plan. Concerns about potential neighborhood congestion and traffic have also been raised by some residents.

Wegmans' sole Manhattan location, at Astor Place, has previously faced scrutiny regarding its use of facial recognition technology to identify customers. The extent to which this technology, or similar systems, will be implemented at the new Upper West Side store remains unknown.
