Wayne Sleep Reveals Cancer Diagnosis, Reflects on Past Battle
The 'I'm A Celebrity' star announced on Sunday he is undergoing treatment for cancer, sharing that he is 'on the mend' and 'looking forward to getting back to full strength.'
Wayne Sleep, known for his roles on "I'm A Celebrity" and various other reality television programs, has announced he is undergoing treatment for cancer. The 78-year-old former ballet dancer and television personality shared a health update with his followers on Sunday, stating that the treatment appears to be effective and he is recovering.
Sleep revealed that he had not been looking like his usual self in recent months, prompting him to share the news. In a social media post, he expressed optimism about his recovery and thanked those who had shown concern. "I'm pleased to say that the treatment appears to be working, and I am on the mend thanks to all at the Royal Marsden and am looking forward to getting back to full strength," he wrote. "I'm in good spirits and feeling positive about the future."
This diagnosis comes 11 years after Sleep successfully battled prostate cancer. He previously shared details of his 2015 prostate cancer experience, noting that elevated PSA levels were first detected in 2010. After further testing, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. At the time, he opted for brachytherapy, a form of radiation treatment, to avoid delaying his participation in filming "The Real Marigold Hotel" in India.
Sleep gained wider recognition in the UK for his performance on "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!" in 2003, where he finished in fourth place. His television career has also included appearances on "Celebrity Big Brother" and "The Real Marigold Hotel" and its subsequent travel series, "The Real Marigold Tour." He also served as a judge on the ITV dance competition show "Stepping Out" in 2013.
