Wayne Sleep Diagnosed with Cancer, 11 Years After Prostate Cancer Battle
The 'I'm A Celebrity' star shared an update on his health, stating he is undergoing treatment and is 'on the mend'.
Wayne Sleep, 78, the former ballet dancer and reality television personality, has revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer. He shared a health update with his followers on Sunday, stating that he has been undergoing treatment since the summer.
Sleep, who appeared on "I'm A Celebrity" in 2003, noted that he had not been looking like his usual self recently. He expressed optimism about his recovery, saying, "I'm pleased to say that the treatment appears to be working, and I am on the mend... and am looking forward to getting back to full strength. I'm in good spirits and feeling positive about the future." He thanked those for their kindness and concern, adding a note that he was photographed on Friday at Kew Gardens.
This is not the first time Sleep has faced a cancer diagnosis. He battled prostate cancer 11 years ago. In 2016, he told The Mirror that his PSA levels were raised in 2010. After repeated tests, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. At the time, doctors informed him that it had been caught early and offered treatment options, including radiotherapy and brachytherapy. Sleep opted for brachytherapy, a procedure involving the implantation of radioactive pellets into the prostate, to accommodate filming a BBC series in India.
Beyond "I'm A Celebrity," Sleep has also appeared on "Celebrity Big Brother" and the BBC series "The Real Marigold Hotel." He also served as a judge on the ITV dance show "Stepping Out" in 2013.
