Disneyland experienced significant operational disruptions on Tuesday evening, July 28, when a city-wide water crisis affected large sections of Anaheim, California. A technical issue with the city's groundwater system caused a severe drop in water pressure, impacting businesses and residents, including Disneyland Park and Downtown Disney.
The loss of running water forced the closure of restrooms throughout Disneyland and Downtown Disney, leading to confusion and frustration among park guests. Restaurants within the resort were also unable to operate, with some upscale dining establishments turning away patrons.
"Our teams worked quickly to take care of affected guests, and we appreciate their flexibility," a Disneyland Resort statement read. The resort confirmed that the water pressure issue temporarily impacted operations. The situation was resolved as of Wednesday, July 29.
According to city officials, approximately 75 percent of Anaheim's water supply comes from groundwater wells. During the outage, four of the city's 14 groundwater wells were affected, preventing water from being drawn from those specific sources. The city also utilized water from the Colorado River to supplement the supply.
Social media platforms documented the guest experience, with users sharing accounts of closed bathrooms and unavailable amenities. Videos showed cast members directing guests away from restroom facilities. Some guests expressed concern over the park remaining open without basic facilities, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) describing the situation as "utter chaos."
