The Lake Washington School District (LWSD) has initiated a review following the circulation of a viral video that appears to show a district employee making celebratory remarks about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The district confirmed it is aware of the video and the concerns raised by community members.

In the video, shared on social media, a woman identified as a nurse at Eastlake High School is heard saying, "Oh my God, thank God he’s dead, bye," after Charlie Kirk is mentioned. The incident reportedly occurred at a farmer's market, where other individuals were seen wearing Kirk-themed attire. The woman in the video also appeared to make mocking gestures.

Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University as part of his "American Comeback Tour." His suspected assassin, Tyler Robinson, faces legal proceedings in Utah.

A spokesperson for the Lake Washington School District emphasized that the views expressed in the video do not reflect the values or positions of the district. "We expect all employees to uphold the professional standards and the values of the district and to contribute to a culture of respect, dignity and civil discourse," the spokesperson stated. The district also noted that employees retain rights and protections as private citizens, and balancing these principles is central to their approach to such incidents. As this is an ongoing personnel matter, the district has stated it cannot provide further details.

Eastlake High School is part of the Lake Washington School District and serves students in grades 9 through 12. The district's policies on employee conduct outside of work and on social media were referenced in response to inquiries.

Turning Point USA, through its spokesman Andrew Kolvet, reacted to the video on social media, questioning the alignment of individuals with "awful humans" and professions involving children, schools, and medicine.
