Washington School District Faces Lawsuit Over Bible Distribution Policy
A federal lawsuit alleges a Washington school district prohibited students from possessing Bibles, leading to a settlement requiring an apology and monetary compensation.

A Washington state school district has agreed to apologize and pay $275,000 to settle a federal lawsuit alleging that its policies forced students to hide Bibles in sealed envelopes. The lawsuit, filed by LifeWise Academy, contended that the district's actions violated students' First Amendment rights.
According to LifeWise Academy's Joel Penton, the district's policies effectively prevented students from accessing or displaying religious materials. The organization argued that the school's stance amounted to discrimination against religious expression.
The settlement aims to address the alleged constitutional infringements and provide redress for the students affected by the district's policies. The agreement requires the district to formally apologize for its actions and implement changes to its policies regarding the distribution and possession of religious texts.
