Internal documents from the National Park Service project that the approximately 850,000 fireworks shells planned for launch across 10 sites on the National Mall could lead to hazardous levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air, according to a report by The Washington Post.

The projections suggest that the air quality could reach unhealthy levels due to the smoke and debris generated by the extensive pyrotechnics display.

The report highlights potential concerns for public health, particularly for sensitive groups, during and immediately after the fireworks event.
