Rescuers successfully freed a schoolgirl who became trapped in rocks on Dartmoor for several hours, with washing up liquid playing a crucial role in her release. The girl, identified as Shannon, had been rock scrambling with a group when her foot slipped into a hole, leaving her stuck.

"I didn't know if I was going to get out and I wanted my mum," Shannon recounted, describing her distress during the incident. High temperatures added to the challenging conditions of the rescue.

Her mother, Jessica, expressed gratitude towards the rescue team and everyone involved for keeping her daughter upbeat and safe throughout the ordeal. "She came out happy, she came out smiling and that was down to every single person that was there in the hot temperatures keeping her upbeat and looking after her and I just cannot ever thank you enough," Jessica said.

The rescue operation involved utilizing washing up liquid, which was applied to Shannon's leggings and the area where she was trapped. This lubrication allowed rescuers to slide her out of the rocks.

Efforts to free the girl were supported by a team of individuals who worked to keep her spirits up during the hours she was stuck. The incident highlights the resourceful methods employed in rescue operations, even in challenging environments like Dartmoor.
