Warriors Statement Addresses Kristaps Porzingis Trade Rumors Amidst Health Concerns
The Golden State Warriors have officially responded to reports of exploring trade options for Kristaps Porzingis, who is sidelined indefinitely with an undisclosed illness.
The Golden State Warriors issued a statement Wednesday addressing recent media reports that the team has been exploring trade possibilities for center Kristaps Porzingis. The team declined to comment on trade speculation or reports concerning Porzingis's health or future, stating that conversations between the team, the player, and his representatives will remain private.
"We are not anticipating Kristaps being around the team in the immediate future," the Warriors' statement read. "We’ll provide additional updates when available and appropriate."
The statement comes after ESPN reported that the Warriors had "begun exploring trade routes" for Porzingis, who is out indefinitely. The news broke just hours before the Warriors were scheduled to open their 2026-2027 season against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Earlier in the week, head coach Steve Kerr indicated that Porzingis would not be traveling with the team for the upcoming season, stating a desire to give him space to focus on his recovery. Porzingis himself addressed his prolonged absence via social media last week, assuring fans he was working with doctors to recover his health and was feeling "better and better."
However, the ESPN report cited a source who suggested that stepping away from basketball permanently could be a possibility for Porzingis if his health does not improve. The exact nature of his illness remains unknown.
Earlier this offseason, the Warriors signed Porzingis to a two-year, $40 million contract extension.
