Warriors Rookie Lendeborg Calls Out Luka Doncic's On-Court Behavior

Matched up against Luka Doncic in his NBA debut, Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg stated he lost all respect for the Lakers' star due to his on-court conduct. In the Warriors' 127-105 season-opening loss to the Lakers, Lendeborg voiced his strong disapproval of Doncic's consistent complaining and perceived foul-baiting.

"Being in there firsthand, just watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all respect, man," Lendeborg said after the game. "That was awful."

Lendeborg, who finished with 12 points, four personal fouls, and one technical in 29 minutes, found himself frequently matched up defensively against Doncic. Doncic scored a game-high 28 points, making nine free throws.

"Like, me getting frustrated, it’s not about the foul getting called. It’s about him complaining the entire game," Lendeborg elaborated. "Then you get the foul called — congratulations, bro — and you talk to me like you did something great? That’s just weak. It kind of threw me off for a while. Because like I said, I had so much respect for him. Gone, man."

Lendeborg felt that while Doncic only went to the free-throw line nine times, it seemed like many more due to his interactions with officials. Doncic, for his part, commented that Lendeborg was "talking like crazy."

Lendeborg admitted to using "a couple cuss words," which led to his technical foul, stating he was responding to Doncic's taunts after a foul call. A key exchange occurred midway through the first half when Lendeborg bit on a pump fake. Doncic pointed and laughed, and Lendeborg responded, eventually leading to a technical foul for Lendeborg after a successful defensive play on Doncic's step-back three-pointer.

Doncic also engaged with Lendeborg after making a half-court shot at halftime. Warriors coach Steve Kerr felt it was "ridiculous" that only Lendeborg received a technical but acknowledged that Doncic "kind of lured him in." Despite this, Kerr expressed no issue with his rookie's assertiveness.

Lendeborg believes his confrontational approach can be effective defensively. "I feel like it works for me, for sure. On the defensive end I feel like it worked," he said. "I know he has a reputation for that. That’s probably why the half-court shot went in. But I didn’t really see nothing else. I definitely thought that he was gonna do more than that."

Reflecting on his debut, Lendeborg offered a broader observation about the professional game. "I got to see what the NBA’s like, man. A lot of flopping, a lot of foul baiting, a lot of praying to the ref," he concluded. "Interesting first game, for sure."
