A woman wanted by police crashed into multiple parked cars and fled the scene shortly after allegedly swerving at officers in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when police attempted to speak with Kailee Murphy, 32, at a unit block on Clovelly Road in Coogee.
According to police, Murphy entered a Holden SUV and accelerated toward officers who were attempting to block the road. She then sped away from the location. Moments later, CCTV footage captured the vehicle colliding with three parked cars, accompanied by the sound of blaring car alarms.
Witnesses described hearing a significant crash and then observing a large police presence, with one resident reporting approximately 20 police vehicles. Another witness stated they heard the loudest crash they had ever heard, followed immediately by sirens.
Police had previously attempted to locate Murphy at her apartment in Randwick but were unsuccessful. Inspector Chris Louis described Murphy's alleged actions as "very serious," noting that officers had to take evasive action as she sped off.
Following the crash, a large search was initiated for Murphy, involving police dogs and door-to-door inquiries. She remained at large until Sunday afternoon, when she was spotted in a public phone box in Matraville. A brief foot pursuit ensued before she was apprehended.
Murphy was already the subject of several warrants related to alleged break and enter offenses and theft charges. Inspector Louis indicated that one of the warrants was for a breach of parole, which would result in a return to prison.
Murphy is currently in police custody at Maroubra police station, where charges are expected to be laid. The alleged incident damaged several vehicles and caused distress to residents in the beachside suburb.
