Wally Lewis Reunites with Son, Offering Hope for Family Reconciliation

Rugby league legend Wally Lewis has reunited with his son Mitch, marking a significant step toward healing a deep rift within his family that has persisted for six years.

The reunion occurred earlier this month during a KIIS 97.3 function, where Lewis, a presenter for the network, was seen interacting warmly with his eldest child. The following day, a photograph shared on Instagram showed the 66-year-old Lewis and his 40-year-old son posing together in front of a private jet.

"Well that was a fun 24 hours! Thanks for a great road trip, gang!" Lewis captioned the photo, tagging his son among those on board.

A source close to the family told New Idea that the reunion is "a start, after years of unimaginable heartache" and represents "a move in the right direction." The source added that while the steps may be small, they have given Lewis "fresh hope."

The estrangement began after Lewis separated from his first wife, Jacqui, with whom he was married for 36 years, to be with his current partner, Lynda Adams. None of Lewis's adult children—Mitch, Lincoln, and Jamie-Lee—attended his second wedding in Brisbane in April of the previous year.

Lewis has previously spoken about the painful effects of the split on his children. In rare comments, he expressed his sorrow over the situation, stating, "I don't feel good about that and I don't get the chance to spend much time with my kids." He added, "They are three wonderful kids and I'm very sorry it affected them." He also conveyed pride in his children and their support for their mother.

Lewis confirmed his separation from Jacqui in February 2021, stating in a release through his employer, Channel Nine, that it had been a difficult time for the entire family. "I hope over time we can rebuild our ties and move on with life," he said at the time, also confirming he was in another relationship.
