Rugby league legend Wally Lewis recently attended his niece Amber Lewis's wedding, sharing the occasion with family and loved ones. The event occurred as the 66-year-old publicly addressed the rift with his adult children, Mitch, Lincoln, and Jamie-Lee, stemming from his separation from his first wife, Jacqui, after 36 years of marriage.
Lewis, known as 'The King' to generations of fans, expressed his sorrow over the estrangement, which began after he moved on with his new partner, Lynda. His children did not attend his second wedding in April of the previous year. In recent comments, Lewis became emotional discussing the situation, stating he was 'very sorry it affected them' and that he did not get the chance to spend much time with his kids. He also expressed pride in them and the support they provide their mother.
The public rift became apparent in February 2021 when Lewis released a statement acknowledging the difficult time his family had experienced since his separation from Jacqui. He expressed hope for eventual reconciliation and confirmed he was in a new relationship at the time. The statement detailed that he and Jacqui had separated the year prior and were working through the details of their divorce.
Despite the ongoing family tension, Lewis shared moments of joy from his niece's wedding on Instagram, calling it a 'very special weekend for all.' The images posted from the event showed Lewis with his wife Lynda and other family members, including the bride and groom. Lewis had previously spoken about how Jacqui was a significant support to him, particularly after his epilepsy diagnosis following a seizure on live television.
