Wales' largest health board, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, has been issued a final warning by the Welsh government as it continues to struggle with improvements after nine years under special measures. The health board, responsible for healthcare services across north Wales, has remained in the highest level of oversight due to ongoing concerns regarding the quality of care, patient safety, and leadership effectiveness.
In response to a perceived lack of progress, the Welsh government announced it will adopt a more direct role in overseeing the health board's operations. An expert panel has been commissioned to conduct a thorough review of the situation and is expected to deliver its report by the end of October. Mabon ap Gwynfor, the Health Secretary, stated on Tuesday that "all options" are being considered if the necessary scale and pace of improvement are not demonstrated.
