Wakefield Owner Celebrates Historic Grand Final Victory Amidst Riotous Celebrations
Matt Ellis describes the team's overwhelming triumph and the ensuing revelry that lasted into the early hours.
Wakefield owner Matt Ellis described a potent combination of elation and exhaustion following his club's historic Grand Final victory, which marked their first league title in 58 years. The celebrations following the 23-10 win over Warrington Wolves were intense, with players reportedly continuing their revelry until 1 a.m.
Ellis, speaking to Daily Mail Sport, admitted to feeling the effects of the celebrations the following morning but conveyed a sense of pride in his team's achievement and their resilient spirit. "I feel a bit rough this morning, but I'm still alive," Ellis stated. "The players were still at it at 1am - I told them to keep going!"
The victory represents a significant milestone for the club, culminating in a long-awaited championship. Head coach Daryl Powell, who has navigated past challenges in his previous role, was instrumental in guiding the team to this success.
Ellis expressed his ambition for the club's future, aiming to establish Wakefield as one of the most prominent clubs in the country. "We're definitely going to become a top side for years to come," he asserted, outlining a grand plan to sustain their success.
The team's recruitment strategy, led by director of rugby Ste Mills, has been credited with bringing in key players such as Jake Trueman, Mike McMeeken, Caleb Hamlin-Uele, and Caius Faatili, who all contributed to the Grand Final triumph.
