New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel addressed questions regarding marriage counseling during a recent offseason press conference, linking personal growth to team improvement.
During the presser, ESPN reporter Kalyn Kahler asked Vrabel about the counseling he and his wife, Jen Vrabel, had undergone, referencing an admission he made in April. Kahler inquired what he learned from the counseling and how he balanced that personal commitment with preparing for the upcoming season.
“I think we always look at improvement,” Vrabel stated. “As we talk about getting ready for the next season, we always look at improvement and ways that we can improve individually and how we can improve as a team. It’s really critical that we continue to do that, on and off the field.”
Vrabel, who married Jen in 1999 and shares two sons with her, explained that the team's journey would be different from the previous year and that their focus was on improvement. He then pivoted to discussing football strategy, mentioning "combination blocks" and team improvement.
When asked if the counseling would continue through the season, Vrabel emphasized the ongoing importance of mental fitness. “That’s gonna continue with me, the coaches, the staff and our players,” he said, also highlighting the team's psychologist, Dr. Jonathan Jenkins, and the resources he provides.
The questions about counseling arose four months after photos surfaced showing Vrabel with NFL reporter Diana Russini. Vrabel and his wife reportedly attended an "emergency marriage summit" in Utah in April following the publication of those photos. Vrabel and Jen Vrabel have since appeared together publicly, including at an event celebrating their son's engagement in June and photographs taken in New York City the following month.
