A majority of voters oppose U.S. military action against Iran, and nearly two-thirds believe any conflict will last at least a year, according to a recent Fox News poll. The survey found that 56% of voters disapprove of military action, with 40% expressing strong opposition. Among Democrats, 84% oppose the action, while 76% of Republicans support it.
Expectations for the duration of the conflict have also shifted. In July, 64% of voters thought the war would last a year or more, an increase of 13 percentage points since May. Those who oppose the war are more likely to expect a prolonged conflict; 80% of opponents anticipate it lasting at least a year, compared to 56% of supporters who believe it will conclude in weeks or months.
Doubts also persist about whether the U.S. will reach an agreement with Iran. About half of those surveyed believe no deal will be made, with the remaining respondents split between expecting a good deal (27%) and a bad one (25%). This sentiment is shared across party lines, with roughly half of Democrats, Republicans, and independents predicting no agreement.
President Trump's handling of the situation with Iran received a record-low approval rating of 34%, with 66% of voters disapproving. Overall, Trump's job performance rating remains steady but underwater, with 39% approval and 61% disapproval, which ties a previous high. His strongest support comes from MAGA Republicans and conservatives, but his approval has declined among rural and White voters, as well as non-MAGA Republicans.
In a notable shift, voters are now evenly divided on which party can better handle immigration, with 50% favoring Democrats and 49% favoring Republicans. This marks a change from April, when Republicans held an 8-point advantage. Women and voters under 45 prefer Democrats on immigration, while men and older voters favor Republicans.
Immigration remains Trump's strongest issue, though his rating on it is negative at 42% approval. Views of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are also divided, with 41% approval overall. Majorities of Democrats and independents disapprove of ICE, while most Republicans approve.
The poll, conducted July 17-20, 2026, surveyed 1,003 registered voters. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
