Voter Challenges Senate Candidate Over Bible's Stance on Abortion
A Catholic voter confronted a Texas Democratic Senate hopeful at a CNN town hall after he claimed the Bible is silent on abortion.
During a recent CNN town hall, Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico faced a direct challenge from a voter regarding his stance on abortion and its compatibility with his faith. Talarico, who is also a Christian.
Talarico stated that the Bible does not take a definitive stance on abortion, suggesting that his pro-choice position is consistent with his religious beliefs. He attempted to persuade Jody Hunt, a self-described "one-issue voter," by arguing that the Bible's silence on the matter allows for differing interpretations.
Hunt, identifying as Catholic, countered Talarico's assertion by referencing the Ten Commandments. "I just want to add that the Bible is not silent on abortion. There is the 10 Commandments: 'Thou shall not kill,'" she stated. Hunt also expressed that such characterizations of the Bible's position on abortion can be insulting to Catholics.
The exchange highlighted a point of contention for many voters who consider religious doctrine when forming their views on abortion.
