Vogue has announced that San Francisco will host its annual Vogue World event in 2027, marking a significant cultural moment for a city that has historically been described as unfashionable. Condé Nast's chief content officer and global editorial director of Vogue, Anna Wintour, stated that San Francisco was chosen for its unique character, diversity, and embrace of arts and creativity.
"Vogue believes in celebrating cities, and San Francisco is a city like none other," Wintour said in a statement. "It’s a place of diverse communities living side by side, a place that loves the arts, loves creativity, and isn’t afraid of change. I love that San Francisco has always stood up for its values, and the things it believes in. We think it’s the perfect setting for Vogue World 2027."
San Francisco has previously been labeled "the land that style forgot" by fashion writer Guy Trebay, a moniker stemming from the city's perceived preference for practical attire over high fashion, including company-branded T-shirts and comfortable, fog-friendly clothing. The upcoming Vogue World event is seen by some, including San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, as a sign of the city's revitalization.
"Creativity and free expression have been the engine of San Francisco for generations, and that spirit will be on full display at Vogue World 2027," Lurie said.
The Vogue World event has previously been held in international fashion capitals such as New York, London, and Milan. A "Vogue World: Hollywood" event took place in Los Angeles in 2025, featuring celebrities and models like Doja Cat, Gracie Abrams, Nicole Kidman, and Kendall Jenner.
