Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has filed a petition to legally drop her father's surname. The filing in Los Angeles County Superior Court requests that her name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
The reason for the name change is listed as 'personal' in court documents, with a hearing scheduled for November 2. This move by Vivienne follows similar actions taken by three of her older siblings.
In May 2024, Vivienne also omitted her father's surname from the Playbill program for the Broadway production of "The Outsiders," where she served as a producer alongside her mother. She was born in 2008, alongside her twin brother Knox.
Vivienne's petition comes days after her siblings Zahara, 21, and Maddox, 24, publicly revealed their intentions to drop the Pitt surname. Notices of their petitions were published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal throughout June and July. Zahara's petition seeks to change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie, while Maddox's petition aims to change it to Maddox Chivan Jolie.
California law requires individuals seeking a legal name change to publish an Order to Show Cause for four consecutive weeks in a newspaper before their court date. Zahara's notice appeared a month after she filed her petition, and Maddox filed his request in late May.
Zahara had previously dropped the Pitt surname publicly three years ago when she joined a sorority at Spelman College and used the name Zahara Marley Jolie at her graduation ceremony. A source close to Jolie indicated that Pitt's absence from the ceremony was noted.
Shiloh, 20, another daughter of Jolie and Pitt, legally dropped the actor's last name last year, changing her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Jolie. Her lawyer stated at the time that the decision followed "painful events."
Pitt's relationship with his son Pax, 22, is also reportedly strained, with Pax having previously referred to his father negatively. It is not currently known if Pax has taken steps to drop the Pitt surname. Vivienne's twin brother, Knox, is the only sibling who has not yet formally dropped the actor's surname.
Sources close to Pitt have suggested that he finds the estrangement from his children deeply painful and believes Jolie's influence has contributed to the rift. Conversely, sources close to Jolie have stated that Pitt's fractured relationships are a direct result of his own actions.
Pitt and Jolie, once a prominent Hollywood couple, were together for many years after meeting on the set of the 2005 film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." They married in 2014 and have six children: Maddox, Zahara, Pax, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox. Their divorce was finalized in 2024 after a lengthy legal battle that began after a 2016 incident.
Pitt is currently dating jewelry designer Ines de Ramon.
