The suspect in a mass shooting at Virginia State University, identified as 19-year-old Camron Harris, was apprehended by authorities on Saturday evening after more than 14 hours on the run. Police found Harris hiding in a closet within the Seward Hall dormitory.

Harris, who is not a student at the university, faces multiple charges including four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bail at the county jail. The suspect resides in Henrico, approximately 30 miles from the university campus.

The alleged shooting occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. Five individuals, ranging in age from 17 to 23, were wounded. One of the victims was a 20-year-old male student at the university, while the other four were not enrolled at VSU. All injured parties were transported to local hospitals for treatment, and one has since been released.

Law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed a motive for the incident. Following the shooting, the university was placed on a temporary lockdown.

The shooting at Virginia State University occurred amidst a series of violent incidents across the United States over the weekend. These included a shooting at an outdoor concert in Kentucky, where two children were among the four individuals wounded, and a drive-by shooting in Chicago that left four people injured. Additionally, a fatal shooting in Hartford, Connecticut, resulted in one death and four injuries outside a nightclub early Sunday morning.
