Virginia Man Charged with Abduction and Assault After Allegedly Taping Wife to Chair

Terry Ward, a 64-year-old decorated war veteran, is facing felony abduction and assault charges after allegedly restraining his wife in their Richmond, Virginia home. According to a police report, the incident occurred on October 11 when Ward allegedly tied his wife to a chair and placed her in the basement for 30 to 45 minutes.

Officers responding to the scene noted tape markings on the wife's arms. Ward admitted to police that he tied his wife to a chair and placed her in the basement. The Richmond Police Department was unable to confirm if Ward was watching football during the incident when questioned by The Post.

The incident reportedly occurred around the time the Baltimore Ravens-Atlanta Falcons game concluded in overtime. A Facebook group called Virginia Statewide Incidents gained traction for sharing the story, claiming Ward restrained his wife to watch football. Images shared on social media show Ward in military fatigues and at other family gatherings, including one where he is wearing a New England Patriots cap.

Ward, a West Point graduate who served in Operation Desert Storm and received the Bronze Star, was arrested following the incident. He has been charged with felony abduction and misdemeanor assault of a family member. He posted a $20,000 bond the following morning.

Court documents indicate Ward has been ordered to avoid all contact with his wife and maintain a distance of 1000 feet from their Richmond residence. He is also restricted from leaving Virginia, must undergo drug and alcohol testing, and is prohibited from possessing a firearm. Ward did not respond to requests for comment.
