A family in Arrington, Virginia, is grappling with the sudden and unexpected death of their 12-year-old son, Oliver 'Oli' Forline, who passed away on August 26. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Oliver is remembered by his family as a boy with a "tender heart" who had a unique ability to make others feel valued. His family has encouraged those in their community to practice kindness, stating, "We never truly know what someone else may be carrying, and sometimes a simple act of kindness can mean more than we realize."

He leaves behind his parents, Jonathan Forlines and Gloria Hall, and his younger brother, Elisha Forlines, with whom he shared an inseparable bond. The brothers enjoyed activities such as crafting, building with Legos, playing sports, and catching bugs. Their family noted that they "often stayed up all night talking through the floor boards with one another," highlighting Oliver's role as a devoted older brother.

Oliver was actively involved in his community and his faith. He was a member of the youth program at Calvary Baptist Church and participated in the local 4-H program and a recreational soccer league. His interests were diverse, including a passion for scientific topics such as rocks, gems, and insects. He also enjoyed hiking, cooking, and operating a 3-D printer.

His family described him as someone remembered for his "kindness, patience, gentle spirit, his creativity, and the love he showed to those around him." They added that his "life touched more people than he could ever have known, and his absence leaves an immeasurable hole in the hearts of his family, friends, church family, teachers, and community."

Calvary Baptist Church held a candlelight vigil for Oliver on Monday evening at a local high school football field, with attendees asked to wear blue and bring a candle. Images from the event shared by his aunt, Angela Huffman Forlines, depicted a sunset and showed the community's support for the grieving family.

Oliver's funeral is scheduled for Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, followed by a fellowship meal. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the church's youth program. They have also asked attendees to bring a rock to the funeral, which will be used to create a memorial garden in Oliver's memory.
