A Seattle glassblowing studio has begun selling handcrafted glass figurines of a raccoon, dubbed "Jimothy," that has recently gained viral attention for its unique spinal condition. The figurines, made from borosilicate glass, are priced at $125 each and are described by the studio as "turning an internet legend into a one-of-a-kind glass sculpture."
The Seattle Glassblowing Studio offers the figurines in two styles: "Standing Jimothy" and "Ornament Jimothy." Both styles are currently sold out, reflecting the animal's widespread popularity.
Each handmade figurine measures approximately 2 inches tall and 2.5 inches long. Customers can opt for in-studio pickup or have their orders shipped, with delivery times estimated between four to eight weeks for made-to-order pieces. The studio emphasizes that due to the handmade nature of each piece, no two figurines are identical, each possessing its own character.
Jimothy gained notoriety after being filmed traversing backyards and balconies in Seattle. Social media users embraced the raccoon, with some calling him "the most Seattle animal possible" and heralding a "hot Jimothy summer." Videos of the raccoon, noted for its hunched back and short spine, have circulated widely online.
While many find Jimothy's unusual appearance endearing, experts have noted that his spinal condition could impact his survival. Brian Collins of the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine stated that the raccoon's limited flexibility and agility may hinder its ability to evade predators and hunt effectively, potentially leading to a difficult life.
