Violet Grohl, daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, has expressed her sadness following the death of Jennifer Precious Finch, the former bassist for the rock band L7. Finch died at the age of 59 after a battle with cancer.
Violet Grohl, 20, commented on an Instagram post announcing Finch's death. "This is so devastating, she was such a force xx made so many feel so seen. Rest in peace legend," she wrote. She also shared a tribute on her Instagram Stories, reposting an image of Finch with the message "Rest in peace, legend" and a broken heart emoji.
Finch and Dave Grohl dated in the early 1990s, and remained friends in the years that followed. Finch had previously defended Grohl in September 2024, speaking to TMZ amid revelations about Grohl fathering a child outside of his marriage. At the time, Finch stated that Grohl was "doing everything he can for his family" and called him "a top-tier dad and friend."
Finch's death comes shortly after she underwent brain surgery to treat an "aggressive" form of cancer. She had publicly announced her diagnosis earlier in the week, which led to her withdrawing from L7's upcoming farewell tour due to multiple surgeries and complications. Her loved ones had set up a GoFundMe page to help with her medical expenses, which surpassed its $350,000 goal, raising over $393,000.
An announcement on Finch's Instagram account read: "We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch. Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso. We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages. We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time."
