Vinted Unveils Major Terms and Conditions Update for UK Users

Vinted, a prominent online marketplace for second-hand fashion, is set to implement significant changes to its Terms and Conditions for its 17 million UK users, effective October 8, 2026. These updates cover alterations to buyer fees, moderation policies, handling of counterfeit goods, and account management procedures.

Fee Structure Update

The fee previously identified as the 'Buyer Protection fee' will be rebranded as a 'Vinted fee.' This charge, which constitutes three to eight percent of the item or bundle price, will continue to cover the costs associated with operating and enhancing the Vinted platform, including services like refunds and transaction management. Buyers will still have a two-day window after delivery to report any issues with their purchases.

Moderation and Enforcement

The platform's approach to community concerns and moderation has been updated with a more concise definition. While previous terms listed specific actions that could lead to account blocking, the revised conditions employ a broader description of 'proportional' corrective measures. Vinted reserves the right to take action if user content, items, or activities are deemed unlawful, a threat to public security, or in violation of the platform's terms and catalogue rules.

Counterfeit Item Policy

Under the new terms, Vinted will have the right to dispose of or destroy items verified as counterfeit after a six-week 'Retention Window,' provided the seller cannot offer satisfactory proof of authenticity within this period. If an item is confirmed as counterfeit by Vinted's verification team, users authorize the platform to dispose of it without further notice or compensation.

Sellers have six weeks to respond to counterfeit claims before items are disposed or destroyed.

Sellers will now have 48 hours, an increase from the previous 24 hours, to provide evidence of an item's authenticity if a counterfeit claim is made. Failure to provide such evidence will result in the transaction being cancelled, and the buyer will receive a refund without needing to return the item.

Account and Wallet Management

Users are advised to withdraw any funds from their Vinted Wallet before deleting their account, as account deletion may trigger a request to close the Vinted Wallet, depending on the provider's timelines. Additionally, new terms will require that the bank account linked to a Vinted account must match the details of the Vinted balance. Discrepancies may necessitate corrections before payouts can be processed or the Vinted Wallet can continue to be used.
