Vinted Blocks Listings of Items Believed Looted During French Riots

Vinted, a second-hand re-selling platform, has announced it has removed listings of items believed to have been looted from shops during recent riots in France. Following the weekend's disorder, the company stated it "taken immediate action to identify and remove listings linked to looting."

Shops in several French cities, including Paris, Marseille, and Lille, were broken into and ransacked. Protests against the cost of living and public spending escalated into riots, leading to the arrest of at least 1,200 people. According to the head of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Alain Di Crescenzo, over 2,000 businesses were impacted, resulting in hundreds of millions of euros worth of damage.

A Vinted spokesperson emphasized the platform's strict policy: "The sale of stolen goods, or soliciting them, is strictly prohibited on Vinted, and we have zero tolerance for it." The company confirmed that its teams have been actively identifying and removing listings connected to the looting and have increased monitoring of suspicious activities. Accounts found to be in breach of Vinted's rules face consequences up to permanent bans.

Vinted is collaborating with French authorities and law enforcement, while also refining its internal processes to detect and mitigate emerging risks and malicious behavior.
