Vinnie Jones Describes Tearful Reunion with Guy Ritchie After Decade-Long Rift

Vinnie Jones has shared details of a poignant reunion with director Guy Ritchie, marking the end of a decade-long estrangement that began during Jones's battle with alcoholism. The encounter occurred on the set of Ritchie's Netflix series, 'The Gentlemen,' where Jones is playing Geoff Seacombe, the gamekeeper of Halstead Manor.

Jones, 61, recounted on Louis Theroux's podcast that Ritchie, 58, had distanced himself during Jones's struggles with alcohol. The rift reportedly began after Jones, while intoxicated, responded poorly to a call from Ritchie about his film 'RockNRolla.' "I was f*cking drunk, and I went, 'No, I want this, I want that'. And Guy said, 'Really?' Very calmly. I went, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah'. And then I didn't hear from Guy for quite a long time," Jones explained.

The two men reconnected when Ritchie was planning 'The Gentlemen.' Jones described receiving an unexpected call from Ritchie asking about his availability. "I was literally 500 meters from here and got a call out of the blue," Jones said, recalling Ritchie's initial cryptic message, "I might have something for you."

Jones believes Ritchie offered him a chance to return to working with him only after he had been sober for a decade. "Maybe I was about 10 years sober, and maybe that's when he may have called me and went, 'Okay, I'm going to give you another chance', sort of thing. I don't know. We've never discussed it," Jones stated.

His first day back on set with Ritchie was the filming of the opening scene, a funeral sequence for 'The Gentlemen.' Jones admitted to feeling apprehensive about seeing Ritchie after so many years. "I was a bit apprehensive, and I'd gone in the trailer, and I didn't want to go over to his trailer and all the things. So I thought I'd be professional," he said. As Ritchie approached the assembled cast, he walked directly towards Jones. "Walked straight up and just went bang. Fcking hell, both of us in tears. All the crew and everyone was like, fcking hell, that was a moment," Jones recalled. He noted that the moment was not explicitly discussed between them afterward, stating, "Some things don't need f*cking talking about all the time."

Jones's career transition from football to acting was notably shaped by his public persona. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, his aggressive reputation on and off the field, earning him the nickname 'The Human Rottweiler,' made him a recognizable figure. He faced legal troubles, including charges for assault and criminal damage, and admitted his temper was fueled by heavy drinking and issues stemming from his parents' separation. Despite these challenges, he found a path to acting after a successful football career, which he credited with giving him self-respect.

Recent reports also linked Meghan Markle to potential involvement in the third series of 'The Gentlemen,' though insiders have dismissed claims that her potential casting was used for promotional purposes. Filming for the new series has commenced, with Jones, Kaya Scodelario, and Theo James seen on set in London.
