Vincent Pastore, best known for his role as Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero in the acclaimed HBO series The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80. His death was confirmed by U.S. media reports, stating he was found at his home in New York City.
Pastore appeared in all six seasons of The Sopranos, earning widespread recognition for his portrayal of the complex mob character. Despite his character being written out in the second season, his presence was felt throughout the series. In 2000, Pastore and his Sopranos castmates received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
Born in the Bronx in 1946, Pastore served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War before pursuing his acting career. His early film credits included roles in notable movies such as Goodfellas and Carlito's Way. He also made television appearances in shows like Law & Order, General Hospital, and Hawaii Five-O.
His agent, Stephen Attermann, remembered Pastore as a passionate actor who was dedicated to his craft. "He loved being an actor. He was passionate about his craft and was always encouraging, respectful, and generous with young actors, taking the time to offer guidance and support whenever he could," Attermann stated. "For me, losing Vinny is deeply personal. Over more than three decades, I had the honor of watching not only his remarkable career but also the incredible person he was. I will miss his friendship, his loyalty, his humor, and his heart."
