More than 200 people attended an emotional vigil in Cambridge to remember the life of Jason Arday, a former professor at the university. Arday, 41, was found deceased at an address in Battersea, south London, on Friday afternoon.
He had previously resigned as a professor of sociology of education following allegations of plagiarism and questions surrounding some of his academic achievements. Arday had denied these claims, and his family later stated that a "campaign of misinformation" had become too much for him.
During the vigil, attendees were encouraged to connect with one another and share in their collective grief. Shahnaaz Khan, a PhD student at the Faculty of Education, urged those present to "Look around you today, talk to someone you don't know and hold their pain with yours." Participants were also asked to reflect on the positive impact Arday had on their lives and the lives of those around them.
