Video Surfaces of Isaiah Stewart Punching Drew Eubanks Before 2024 Game
Footage shows the former Detroit Piston player in an altercation that led to his arrest prior to a game against the Phoenix Suns.
Newly released footage captures an altercation between Isaiah Stewart and Drew Eubanks that occurred before a February 14, 2024, game between the Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns. Stewart, then a player for the Pistons, was arrested for assault at the arena in Phoenix hours before the game. He was issued a citation and subsequently released.
The video, obtained by Fox 10 Phoenix, shows Stewart walking through an arena hallway as Eubanks waits for him. Eubanks then appears to move his shoulder into Stewart's chest, and the two exchange words. Stewart then throws a punch at Eubanks. Stewart follows the punch by pushing Eubanks, who moves back toward Stewart. The confrontation ends as both players are separated and walk away.
Following the incident, the Suns issued a statement saying, "The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable. We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA."
Monty Williams, who was the head coach of the Pistons at the time and had previously coached the Suns, expressed disapproval of the Suns' statement, calling it "irresponsible" without knowing all the facts.
The NBA suspended Stewart for three games following the incident. Stewart, a former first-round pick, was later traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in a six-team deal in July.
Eubanks, who played 42 games for the Sacramento Kings last season, averaging 5.2 points and 3 rebounds, was signed to a non-guaranteed contract by the New York Knicks this offseason. He is expected to compete for a roster spot alongside other veteran players.
