Video Game Store Worker Hailed as Hero for Confronting French Rioters

A French video game store employee, identified as Pierre, has been lauded as a hero for confronting rioters attempting to loot his store in the city of Nice. A viral video captured the incident, showing Pierre attempting to prevent the mob from entering the Micromania branch.

In the footage, Pierre, dressed in casual attire, is seen facing the crowd as they hurl stones. As he turns to return to his store, one rioter kicks him from behind, causing him to fall. The attack was met with jeers from the surrounding group.

"At one point, I just stepped in front to stop people from getting in, that’s all," Pierre told the French news outlet Ici. He acknowledged the risks, stating, "I think I shouldn’t have done it in the first place. It was stupid. But at the time, that’s what I did."

Despite his efforts, Pierre confirmed that looters were eventually able to steal from the store. He has since received numerous messages of support from the public.

"It’s very kind of them to offer me support, to offer support to all the shopkeepers, to everyone," he said. Pierre also emphasized that the individuals engaging in violence constituted a minority among the broader protest movement across France.

The incidents occurred amidst widespread unrest in France, prompting the government to implement curfews. The events have also drawn international attention, with some media outlets critiquing the coverage of the riots.
