New video and audio recordings have surfaced detailing the shooting of Mia Bieniemy, wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Their son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, has been arrested in connection with the alleged attack.
Audio dispatch and details from the criminal complaint, released by "Good Morning America (GMA)", indicate the incident occurred Sunday night in Ashburn, Virginia. Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalized with serious injuries and is reportedly in stable condition. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, a dispatcher was heard saying, "(A) 57-year-old female reported just shot in the chest and arm, unable to breathe." The dispatcher also stated, "Units be advised, the son still has the weapon currently located within the home."
A neighbor's video captured first responders carrying Mia Bieniemy on a sidewalk away from the residence. She is said to have called 911 herself.
The criminal complaint states Mia Bieniemy was shot in the left forearm and shoulder with a .22 caliber firearm, and a portion of the projectile remains in her body. Elijah Bieniemy, 27, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun Adult Detention Center.
Eric Bieniemy was in Missouri for training camp at the time of the incident. He recently returned to the Chiefs for his role leading the offense after leaving the team following the 2022 season. He has won two Super Bowls with the franchise.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid commented on the incident, stating, "Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy. Mia is stable, which is a plus. We all love EB and you hate seeing those things happen. Real life. You take care of that. She's a saint, one of God's good blessings. But things happen."
