Victoria Beckham has launched a new perfume, Hotel Portofino, which is inspired by a romantic trip she took with her husband, David, in 1997. The business mogul, 52, announced the debut on Instagram, sharing a series of images promoting the new fragrance.
Hotel Portofino is Beckham's first extrait de parfum and marks her fifth collaboration with master perfumer Jerome Epinette. It is described as a more intense version of their previous fragrance, Portofino '97.
"While Portofino '97 is all about falling in love and the rush of infatuation, Hotel Portofino is inspired by the same trip [David and I took] in 1997, but this is a new chapter about staying in love and the deeper echo of enduring love," Beckham told Bazaar. She also noted that her fragrances are "very unique, interesting, and undoubtedly ours; there's a strangeness that is very on brand—it's almost addictive." She added that she prefers polarizing scents over those that are "boring and safe."
The perfume is available on the official Victoria Beckham website and retails for £303 for a 50ml bottle.
Portofino holds significance for the couple, as it was the location of their first secret trip to Italy in 1997, before their relationship was public knowledge. Last month, the couple visited the same hotel for a date night while on a European family vacation. David Beckham shared a photo from the outing, writing, "29 years ago we came to portofino to this hotel before anyone knew we were dating and here we are back again @victoriabeckham Portofino 97."
The couple began dating in 1997, after David Beckham reportedly saw Victoria, then known as Posh Spice, in the Spice Girls' "Say You'll Be There" music video. They announced their engagement in January 1998 and married later that year.
Victoria and David Beckham have four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. Brooklyn Beckham was notably absent from the couple's recent family trip.
