Nineteen-year-old prospect Victor Eklund made an unexpected impact during training camp, earning a place on the New York Islanders' opening night roster. The young forward expressed his surprise at making the team, stating he hadn't felt secure at any point during the preseason.
"It was kind of a shock," Eklund told The Post. "I just tried to play to my best every day. I didn’t feel like I was safe at any time."
Despite Eklund's internal uncertainty, New York Islanders General Manager Mathieu Darche described the decision to keep him on the roster as straightforward. Eklund's strong performance throughout camp ultimately made his inclusion an obvious choice for the team.
