In Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the solemn remembrance of the 40 passengers and crew who died aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001, took place on the 25th anniversary of the attacks. ABC News correspondent Stephanie Ramos reported from the Flight 93 National Memorial.
Flight 93 was en route from Newark, New Jersey, to San Francisco, California, when it was hijacked by four al-Qaeda terrorists. The passengers and crew, through their actions and sacrifice, prevented the plane from reaching its intended target, believed to be in Washington, D.C. The aircraft crashed into a field near Shanksville.
Across the United States, commemorations were held at the sites of the other September 11th attacks: the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. These events honored the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives during the coordinated terrorist attacks.
