A victim who was attacked by double murderer Simon Levy stated that police failures turned her "nightmare into 'real life'" by allowing him to continue attacking and killing other women. The victim, identified only as Laura, reported Levy in 2018 after he sexually assaulted her.
Levy was convicted last week at The Old Bailey for the murders of Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, 53, and Sheryl Wilkins, 39, as well as the rape and near-fatal suffocation of a third woman. He faces a life sentence.
Laura recounted encountering Levy on the London Underground before he followed her and a friend to the Notting Hill Carnival, where the assault occurred. She stated that when she attempted to report the crime eight years ago, Metropolitan Police officers dismissed her, claiming they were "busy with more urgent things." Despite providing a photograph of Levy, she felt the police did not adequately follow up.
Laura believes she was attempting to protect other women by reporting Levy, whom she described as a "predatory monster" and "evil." She expressed devastation for Levy's other victims and their families and feels betrayed by the police, the British Transport Police, the courts, and the Crown Prosecution Service for allowing him to remain free.
Levy had a history of offenses. Earlier this year, he was convicted of sexually assaulting 11 other women, many of whom were targeted on London's transport network between 2023 and 2025. While on bail for multiple sex attacks, Levy committed at least six further assaults on the Tube. He also raped and nearly killed a sex worker before committing his two murders over a two-year period.
Following her 2018 assault, Laura was eventually contacted by police 15 days later to give a statement. Levy was convicted of sexually assaulting Laura and another victim in 2021, receiving a three-year sentence. While incarcerated, he groped a prison officer in 2022. Released early in February 2023, Levy continued his offending, particularly on the Tube, starting in October 2023.
Levy was arrested in November 2024 for two sex attacks on the Tube, but his bail was extended by British Transport Police officers who delayed identification checks. He committed his first rape that same night, attacking a sex worker. On March 17, Levy murdered Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo. Despite routine checks, police were allegedly misled by Levy about his movements.
He was arrested on April 1, 2025, but his bail was extended again by officers awaiting a risk assessment. During this period, Levy carried out four more attacks on the underground. He was charged with five sex assaults on May 2 and remanded, but subsequently released on bail by magistrates, even though he was suspected of murder.
Levy was granted bail again despite failing to attend court hearings and being sought for breaching bail conditions by committing further sex attacks. His second murder victim, Sheryl Wilkins, was killed on August 28, 2025. Police arrested Levy on September 5 after he was identified by facial recognition cameras at a crime scene.
Laura learned of Levy's upcoming murder trial after searching his name earlier this year. She was shocked to discover he had been investigated for sexual assault in 2017, a year before her own attack. She believes that had he been charged then, her assault and potentially others might have been prevented. Laura called for a societal shift in addressing male violence against women and girls.
