Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday. The couple shared the news via X, formerly Twitter.
"We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning," JD Vance wrote. "Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother."
Vance expressed gratitude for the "incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit," calling them a "blessing."
Usha, 40, and JD, 41, announced they were expecting their fourth child in January. "We're very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy," the Second Lady's office posted on X at the time. "Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July."
The Vances are already parents to two sons, Ewan, nine, and Vivek, six, and a daughter, four-year-old Mirabel.
Earlier this year, Usha Vance garnered attention after responding to a New York Times analysis of her maternity wardrobe. The article, written by fashion critic Vanessa Friedman, examined the political messaging around pregnant women in the Trump administration, referencing a Father's Day video of the Vances. Usha Vance responded on X, humorously referencing her attire: "Now that we know the political significance of my $8.75 coral maternity dress from Old Navy, can't wait to hear what the New York Times has to say about my elastic-waistband pants and compression socks!"
Friedman's column had noted Usha Vance's "stretchy coral dress" emphasizing her pregnancy and suggested that her public visibility, along with other prominent pregnant women in the administration, contributed to a narrative about the White House's focus on family and fertility.
