Veteran broadcaster Ray Hadley has cautioned that Karl Stefanovic faces a significant challenge in generating substantial income from his new podcast venture. Hadley, a radio veteran of 2GB, suggested that without the backing of a major television or radio network, Stefanovic's earnings may not match those he achieved during his 21-year career in mainstream media.
Hadley noted that the success enjoyed by Stefanovic and others like Kyle Sandilands has largely been tied to their presence on established platforms. "Given they aren't on those platforms anymore, I think it's going to be difficult," Hadley told The Daily Telegraph. He added that while podcasting success is "not impossible," it is unlikely for many, even prominent figures, citing the numerous expenses involved, including travel, accommodation, and production crews.
This perspective contrasts with advice given to Stefanovic by journalist Piers Morgan. During an appearance on "The Karl Stefanovic Show," Morgan reportedly advised Stefanovic that he could earn tens of millions by expanding his appeal, building a network of podcasts, and developing offshoot social media channels. Morgan shared that he has personally generated $150 million in the past 18 months through his own media empire and suggested Stefanovic could achieve similar success.
Stefanovic's move to an independent podcast platform followed his departure from the Nine network after a controversial interview with Tommy Robinson. Despite the challenges outlined by Hadley, Stefanovic's podcast has seen a surge in viewership since his exit from traditional media. His interview with Piers Morgan alone garnered over 320,000 views on YouTube within days, and his channel has amassed approximately 172,000 subscribers.
These digital metrics suggest continued audience interest in Stefanovic's content, even as his former breakfast show, "Today," has experienced a decline in ratings following his departure. Rival program "Sunrise" has reportedly widened its lead in the breakfast television battle.
